Happy Thanksgiving!

So, for us Canadians, it’s Thanksgiving weekend again. Official Thanksgiving day is on October 10, 2022, so today. Thanksgiving probably makes a lot of people think of the food; family dinners with a big cooked turkey and pumpkin pie. *remembers Matthew West Gobble Gobble song 🀣* And I’m not judging at all. But I think it’s important to remember the meaning of the word “Thanksgiving”.

Thanksgiving means what it sounds like – giving thanks. And it’s awesome to spend time with family, and food can be pretty awesome too (foodie alert πŸ˜‚) but being thankful is really important. I just looked up the word “thanks” on my Bible app, and it pulled up 106 results. In Thessalonians, Paul even tells us that it’s God’s will for us to give thanks in everything.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV

And, as a person, I don’t think I’m very good at being grateful sometimes… I can have complain-y tendencies… etc… It can be easy to lose sight of blessings when you’re focused on the annoying and upsetting things. I would know πŸ˜”πŸ˜… Max Lucado wrote an awesome poem about being grateful for what we have, rather than moping about what we don’t, because God’s given us Salvation and so many other things. He said – “what you don’t have is much less than what you do.”

I recently saw a quote on Instagram which I really love. Unfortunately I don’t remember what page it was from, and I don’t know who wrote it, and I don’t want to plagiarize or anything, but I want to share the quote. It went like this:

I’m thankful for so many things, but mostly God. Without Him, I’d have nothing else to be thankful for.

I love that quote. God gave us some of the greatest blessings imaginable: salvation, a home in Heaven, and His Son. Without God, life would be unbearable. So yeah, I agree with the person who said that. Without Him, there wouldn’t be much, if anything, to be thankful for. But thankfully we have God, and He has blessed us so much, and we have so much to be thankful for and to give thanks about, which is why it’s important to remember to give thanks.

And yeah, I still definitely need to work on giving thanks. I wrote this a few days ago when I was feeling happy… and I was feeling rather grumpy and UNthankful this morning, so I kind of had to eat my words xD But I still think it’s important to remember to give thanks, so I’ll be working on that πŸ™‚

Happy Thanksgiving y’all! πŸ¦ƒπŸπŸ’› And God bless.

P.S. Since we’re talking about giving thanks, I thought I’d add a few things I’m thankful for.
